Alma Kuwabara is a Franco-Japanese artist based in Paris, France. Working at the intersection of photography, archival imagery, and mixed media, she explores the links between memory, identity and otherness by deconstructing and reconstructing personal narratives.
After earning a degree in Economics, she chose to pursue photography and began an MFA at ENS Louis-Lumière in Paris.
Her work explores documentary photography, blending abstraction, subjectivity, and autofiction. She is interested in family narratives, romantic relationships and the ways in which these can be transmitted and reinterpreted though the image.
The photobook is a key focus of her research, particularly as a space for dialogue between photographs, archives and personal narratives.
